Avan Yu first achieved international recognition at the age of 17 when he was the youngest competitor ever to win the Canadian Chopin Competition.   He has also won top prizes at the Sydney International Piano Competition, The Santander International Piano Competition, the Santander International Piano Competition, and has performed extensively throughout Europe, North America, Asia and Australia.
